“Pride” crowned as best film at the 17th British Independent Film Awards

Last Sunday a glittering array of talent turned out for the Moët British Independent Film Awards 2014. Attendees at the 17th edition of the BIFA awards, held at Old Billingsgate (London) and hosted by “The Inbetweeners” star, Simon Bird, saw Matthew Warchus’ 1980s LGBT strikers inspired movie “Pride” as the big winner, with prizes in three categories, including best film, and Best Supporting actors. Irish actor Andrew Scott was awarded for his supporting role in Warchus miner’s strike drama, and Imelda Staunton also took home her award for Best Supporting Actress also for her role in that film. The new international trailer for Brad Pitt’s Second World War thriller, “Fury” (Sony Pictures), has been released. The film, directed by David Ayer who was responsible of writing the Academy Award-winning movie “Training Day” (Warner Bros. Pictures, 2001), stars Pitt as army sergeant Wardaddy who commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemies. Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”, Peter Jackon’s final instalment of The Hobbit trilogy. Attendees of Comic-Con 2014 were the first ones to get a look at the teaser trailer, but now it is it is online for all to view. Yesterday, Warner Bros. Filmmaker and actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been announced as the presenter of 2013 Sundance Film Festival Awards Ceremony, which will be taking place on January 26 in Park City, Utah. The 31 year-old starlet, who has appeared in seven movies at the festival, including “Brick”, “Mysterious Skin”, and the indie gem “(500) Days of Summer”, will take the chance to charm audiences on a different level as his feature film directorial debut, “Don Jon’s Addiction”, will screen in the out-of-competition Premieres section.
