Barcelona dressed up yesterday to welcome a true Hollywood legend. Susan Sarandon, the unmistakable voice and indomitable spirit behind some of cinema’s most iconic characters, touched down in the city ahead of receiving the prestigious 2026 International Goya Award tonight.
At Hot BuZz (Mag), we were present for the official press conference at the Barcelona History Museum, a setting that, interestingly enough, perfectly matched the career of a woman who is already a monumental part of film history.
But this wasn’t your “run-of-the-mill” press conference, and honestly? We’re here for it. Sarandon proved that her charisma and ability to captivate any room remain completely intact.
From the very beginning, the actress made it clear that she didn’t come just to pose for photos and smile politely. She came to speak her mind, and she didn’t hold back.
An International Goya for an unmatched career
At Hot BuZz (Mag), we’re joining the unanimous applause from critics and the Cinema Academy alike.
Check out our coverage of Susan Sarandon’s visit to the 2023 BCN Film Fest.
This year’s International Goya doesn’t just celebrate the career of an Oscar winner (for “Dead Man Walking”, 1995); it honors an artist who has mastered the balance between acting excellence and fierce activism.
During her meeting with the press, Sarandon humbly reflected on her beginnings and how she has consistently sought out roles that challenged her.

From absolute classics like “Thelma & Louise” (1991), Ridley Scott’s iconic road movie co-starring Geena Davis that changed the female narrative in film forever, to unforgettable stories like “Little Women” (1994), cult musical comedies like “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” (1975), or family dramedies like “Stepmom” (alongside Julia Roberts and Ed Harris), her filmography is a masterclass in versatility.
Susan Sarandon’s Activism: Uncensored
It was during the Q&A, when asked about global politics, war, and American society, that the activist Susan Sarandon truly took center stage.
Her commitment to social and environmental causes is no secret, a stance that has cost her more than a few critiques in Hollywood and even led to arrests at protests.
Yesterday in Barcelona, she showed exactly why she is one of the most respected and bravest figures in the industry.
She was sharp and blunt regarding Donald Trump and the violent actions of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) in the US, denouncing the lack of “moral lucidity” in many sectors of her home country.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, she expressed sincere gratitude for Spain’s stance and the sensitivity shown by its institutions toward the conflict.
Praising Pedro Sánchez and joking about the porn industry
But it wasn’t all serious business. Sarandon has a razor-sharp sense of humor. When asked about Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, she smiled: “He’s very tall, handsome… and he’s on the right side of history.”
The highlight of the afternoon came when she was asked what’s left to do after such a successful career. Without missing a beat, she joked: “Direct porn?”.
It was the kind of genius wit that only an actress of her magnitude, confidence, and humor could pull off.
The actress is set to receive the sought-after International Goya Award this evening at a milestone gala commemorating 40 years of the awards.
